Karmax Ranch is located in Southeastern British Columbia near the town of Invermere. It is beautifully located with panoramic views of the Columbia River Wetlands from Invermere to Radium Hot Springs to the north and Invermere to Fairmont Hot Springs to the south.
The Ranch was first owned by Albert MacCarthy who was a pioneer mountain climber. Conrad Kain, a famous mountaineer and guide teamed up with MacCarthy for numerous first ascents in the mountains of British Columbia. The Ranch house served as a summer residence and launching point for MacCarthy and Kain expeditions. Construction of the main house began in 1909 and was completed in 1913.
Over the years Karmax Ranch holdings decreased as lots were sold. The main house, along with an additional small parcel, was purchased by Forest and Tracy Gadsby and Gilbel Borrome who began a lengthy process to restore the house and property which had deteriorated over the years.
